My Big Girl

Veronika went to see her doctor today for a 2-year well-baby check.

Weight - about 26 1/4 lbs.
Height - 35.5 inches

The poor girl cried and wanted to be held the entire time. She is scared silly of her Paediatrician. But on the bright side, she’s doing great and passed the developmental check-list with flying colors.

She’s also been showing a great interest in the potty; she goes at her own pace and I learned from Natasha to not push the issue. We’re taking it easy and following her lead. She’s definitely growing up.

The girls spent all afternoon playing “doctor” with each other and taking turns being “sick”. It was really cute. I guess the doctor left quite the impression on them!

Little Mermaid

Natasha had her very first swim lesson last night. She looked forward to it for a whole month and was extremely excited (and impatient!). Buying her a swimsuit was a pain because she wanted it to be a) purple, and b) princess-like (and c) one piece! But that’s my personal requirement). Well, I couldn’t meet both of her requirements, so we settled for a pink & purple princess one. She LOVED it from the first moment she saw it… (yeah, she cares about her clothes now).

Her class had 4 kids and 2 instructors; she did really well. She followed instructions and loved being in the pool all on her own (my big girl!). She was beyond excited and extremely loud about it – she laughed, screamed, talked, splashed, but at the same time had a blast.

She wanted nothing to do with the changing room – she did not like the showers, the hand dryers, the benches, the lockers. But she loved the pool and her first class. Next week is holiday so she returns in 2 weeks!

… bummer is that photos weren’t allowed. Boo. Not until the last class! Oh, well. :)

Almost Spring!

by Julia 3/18/2010 10:22:54 PM

So spring has (almost) sprung and the weather has been slightly warming up – it’s about time! Naturally, the girls love the warmer days and going to their much missed parks and playgrounds. I do not think they miss the snow at all…

Slide! Can they get any cuter???

My Little Chef!

So Natasha has been showing a great interest in “my kitchen and food” vs. “her kitchen and food.” She’s is comparing the two all the time! At one point about a week ago, she realized that her play kitchen has no bread. She was quite vocal and opinionated about it too, and went on & on all day about how “Tasha’s kitchen has no bread” with a sad puppy-dog look on her face. So the following weekend I went to TRU and tried to find her some play bread, and bought this instead:

Just Like Home Blue Toaster Set

Both girls loved it! They also loved the hard-boiled eggs it came with.

Well, the following day or so, she realized her kitchen was missing something else – chips! Of, course. How could we miss the chips? So being as she was nearing the end of her sticker-reward chart, she earned the right to ask for a new toy. And yep, she wanted chips for her kitchen! So in the next  few days, she got her reward:

Just Like Home Deli Shop Play Food Set

The set has chips, of course. But it also has everything-you-need-and-more to make sandwiches! So Matthew and I have been made to eat some “interesting” sandwiches the past few days… think 3 pieces of bread with ham, cheese, and peanut butter inside!

But this doesn’t end here. The Princess has observed our “real” kitchen once again and noticed how she doesn’t have any “chainik” (electric kettle) or tea. Oh. My. God. I don’t think this will ever end! She must have everything! I think it’s really cute, though!

Play-Time at the Library

by Julia 3/13/2010 10:19:19 PM

Last Wednesday I took the girls to a playgroup at a local library; they do an hour of free-play with different toys, puzzles, play-dough, arts & crafts, and after that is done, they do an hour of music, dance, and story time; they also serve snacks and it’s all free. The place was packed with kids of all ages (birth-5).

The girls had a great time for the first hour (10-11am), but then got exhausted and I could tell they weren’t in the mood for story time. They also got extremely sleepy and the playgroup cut into their nap time. By 11:20 Natasha told me she wanted to go home and Veronika passed out in the stroller.

We might be heading to a different playgroup next week that is earlier, that way they can still nap at their scheduled time of 12 o’clock. I like my kids to be on a schedule, they function and behave so much better that way. Also, I couldn’t believe how many parents & caregivers bring snotty, sick kids to playgroups. Keep your sick kids at homeeeeeee! Isn’t that common sense? I guess not.

Edible Necklaces!

by Julia 3/9/2010 9:37:20 PM

On Monday I took the girls to a grocery store and on our way out, by the cash register, they had these adorable little crafts. They might have been left over from Valentine’s Day, but they had a lot of them, so maybe not. They only cost $0.49 and consisted of a little plastic box containing red, pink, and white edible beads, and two different strings. I knew the girls would love it.

We came home and made edible necklaces! Except… I did not want the girls to know they’re edible because I am not huge on them eating hard candy. So we pretended they weren’t! The girls had fun and loved them!
