A little comparison...

Did they grow up, or what?

The girls love their milk!

Snack time

Veronika is 15.5 months now and still takes 2 bottles of whole milk a day. One before her afternoon nap and one before bedtime. When I asked her Pediatrcian about eliminating the bottles, he told me it’s not a big deal and as long as we brush her teeth before bedtime, she can still have her bottles. The worst thing that we can do is send her to bed with a bottle, meaning the milk would sit on her teeth all night and cause them to rot. So none of that. But he stressed the importance of toddlers her age getting enough milk which is equivalent to 2 full bottles (about 16oz). Veronika is stubborn – she would drink water, juice, or even chocolate milk from a sippy cup but not her sleep-time milk… she wants that from a bottle. But hopefully by the time she’s 18 months old, we can take out the bottles.

And Natasha… seeing as her sister gets milk before sleep, has decided that she would like some milk before sleep too. She now drinks 2 full sippy cups of milk before nap and before bed! It’s pretty awesome, actually. Both my girls love their milk!

New Sand and Water Table

by Julia 7/21/2009 1:26:27 PM

The girls got a new gift from my parents – Sand and Water Table – and they love it! Actually, we’ve been having a pretty gloomy summer. There aren’t many days warm enough to fill their little swimming pool so this will have to do for now. They really enjoy playing with it and Natasha couldn’t be happier when she saw that it came with a little colourful “choo-choo” and even a railroad to place it on. It didn’t come with sand (I should’ve known), so I opened a package of blue and red moon-sand that we’ve had for ages now and filled it with that. Oops. Veronika wouldn’t stop putting it in her mouth… again, I should’ve known. It didn’t help that the moon-sand came with a little spoon and of course she associated that with food. I am going to take out all the sand and just let them splash with the water! I don’t think they care either way. Next year we’ll buy them some real sand.

Feeling like something new.

I have decided that this blog needs a makeover. I am tired of this layout and feel like something new and fresh. I just can’t seem to find the right template since I like the more clean-looking ones but not something plain & simple at the same time. I guess I could design my own? Maybe if my mister-web-developer-hubby can provide me with the specifications, I could do it.

Matthew??

I know you’re reading this on your blog-feeder. Get down to work! =)

I am in for it...

Over the past year or so, we’ve been noticing that Veronika and Natasha have very opposite personalities. Not so much their likes and dislikes, but how they carry themselves. Natasha is a very gentle, sensitive kind of a girl. She approaches everything with grace and caution and takes whatever necessary steps to ensure she’s being careful and safe; she’s also very observant and doesn’t miss a thing. Veronika, on the other hand, is completely different. Of course, her personality is still developing and coming through now that she’s a toddler, but we can still see how completely different she is. Veronika, unlike her older sister, dives in head first. Veronika is a go-getter and if she wants something, there is no stopping her. Of course that makes her life more dangerous and my life much busier but it’s still fun to see how determined she is. It’s really fun to see how differently they react in the same situation.

With that being said, I think Natasha spoiled us silly. Natasha wasn’t a climber and only did climb a sofa or a bed when she wanted to sit and relax. Veronika climbs for the sake of climbing. She climbs her sister’s toddler bed, the crib, coffee table, recliner, ottoman, dining room chairs (and table!), sofa, our bed… honestly, what doesn’t she climb? And it doesn’t end there because once she’s up there, she would stand up and bounce, jump, rock, dance… all the while having the cutest, yet the most-devilish expression on her face, the “whatcha gonna do about it, mama, eh?” type of face. It cracks me up even though I have to pull her down and redirect her. She’s a little monkey.

Yep, I am definitely in for it this time… video of monkey behaviour

Veronika is 15 months!

by Julia 7/3/2009 2:24:26 PM

Today I took Veronika for her 15-month well-baby check and she’s doing great! She weighs 10.7 kg (23.6 lbs) and is 84 cm tall (33.1 inches). She got 2 vaccines – Chicken Pox and Meningitis and was very brave! She did not cry through her entire check-up and only cried after the vaccines, but that was to be expected. The Ped did not have any concerns and we don’t have to go back until 18 months.
